Jumping across the gap from the pipe lay barge stinger hitch to the stinger in rough weather to disconnect air, exhaust, pneumo and video and power lines is extremely dangerous but must be accomplished to protect the stinger and barge from damage and in extreme weather cases allow the barge to move off location and out of harms way. Previously, a member of the barge deck crew or dive team member would have to leap across and ¡°ride¡± the stinger as it moves around in the wave action while dodging incoming waves to disconnect these service lines.

Hydro Bond Engineering Ltd engineers were approached to help turn this unsafe manual operation into a safe automated system by developing our stinger release connection system.
