The pipes are brought to the tensioner through several transverse and longitudinal conveyors before being lined-up and adjusted for welding.

In the case of rough sea and bad weather conditions forcing work to stop, the pipeline is attached to a cable and lowered to the seabed using a A/R drum winch.
The winch also keeps a constant tension during the "abandon" operation. The load transfer from the tensioner to the winch is accomplished progressively.
